WordPress WooCommerce development for stores that sell in Thailand

WooCommerce stores on WordPress from THB 50,000, with PromptPay, cards, COD, Thai courier shipping and e-Tax invoice fields set up for Thailand.

Why build your store on WooCommerce?

WooCommerce turns a WordPress site into a full store, and it suits Thai businesses that want control over every part of it. We build WooCommerce stores with Thai payments, courier shipping and tax invoice fields; our E-commerce package starts from THB 50,000.

This is part of our wider e-commerce website development work. The build is a one-time project; after that the store runs on hosting you choose and pay for.

Three reasons owners choose it

  1. Ownership. WooCommerce is open-source software, free to install, and it takes no cut of your sales. Your payment gateway charges its own fees and some extensions are paid, but there is no platform subscription.
  2. One site for content and sales. Your blog, service pages, recipes, buying guides and shop all live on one WordPress site under one domain, which matters if content is how customers find you.
  3. Freedom to change things. Checkout steps, pricing for trade buyers, product options and order flows can all be customised in code, not only within what an app allows.

The trade-off is responsibility. Someone has to keep WordPress, WooCommerce and every plugin updated, watch security and pay for hosting that can cope with checkout traffic. If that sounds like a burden you would rather not carry, a hosted platform may suit you better. The tools behind our builds are listed on the technologies we use.

PromptPay, cards and cash on delivery

On WooCommerce, each payment method is a plugin, usually supplied by the payment gateway itself. That gives you a wide choice, and it also means the choice needs care: a gateway plugin handles money, so we only use ones that are maintained by the provider or a well-supported developer, and we keep them updated.

PromptPay

The clean setup is a gateway plugin that generates a PromptPay QR for each order and marks the order paid when the transfer arrives. A cheaper route shows a static QR and asks the customer to upload a slip, which works for low volumes but puts checking on your staff. Our step-by-step article on adding WooCommerce PromptPay payments compares the two.

Cards

Card payments go through the same kind of gateway plugin, with the card form hosted or secured by the provider so card numbers never touch your server.

Cash on delivery

Cash on delivery is built into WooCommerce as a standard payment method, and it can be limited to certain shipping methods. Finer rules, such as a maximum order value or blocking COD for some provinces, need an extra plugin or a small piece of custom code. Our guide to WooCommerce cash on delivery in Thailand covers the rules sellers commonly use.

WooCommerce has shipping zones built in, so a store can match customers by province or postcode and give each zone its own methods and rates. For a Thai store we usually set up at least three: Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces, the rest of the country, and a zone for islands or remote postcodes where couriers charge more. Each zone can carry flat rates, weight-based rates through a table-rate extension, or free shipping above an order value.

Connecting Thailand Post, KEX Express, Flash Express or J&T

Courier connections on WooCommerce come from plugins offered by couriers or shipping aggregators, and what is available changes over time. KEX Express traded as Kerry Express until 2024, so some older plugins still use that name. Before recommending one, we check that it is maintained, that it works with your WooCommerce version, and that it can create labels and send tracking numbers back to the order. Where no reliable plugin exists for your courier, we build a CSV export in the format the courier's bulk upload expects, which is often more dependable than a neglected plugin.

Tax invoices

For VAT-registered sellers, we add optional checkout fields for company name, tax ID and branch, and make that data available to your accounting or e-Tax service. Thailand's Revenue Department explains its electronic tax invoice system on its e-Tax Invoice page; whether and how you join it is a decision for you and your accountant.

A WooCommerce store runs on hosting you choose and pay for. We do not sell hosting; the account is in your name, and we help you pick a plan that fits the store before the build starts. Shared hosting that is fine for a brochure site often struggles with a store, because cart and checkout pages cannot be cached the way ordinary pages can.

What we look for in store hosting

  • A current PHP version and enough memory for WooCommerce and its plugins.
  • Server-side caching that knows to skip cart, checkout and account pages.
  • Daily backups you can restore yourself, kept off the server.
  • A data centre in or near Southeast Asia, so pages load quickly for Thai visitors.

Large catalogues

Thousands of products with many variants put real load on the database. For big catalogues we keep product images compressed, limit heavy filter plugins, and test category and search pages with the full catalogue loaded, not a sample.

Fewer plugins, kept current

Most WooCommerce problems trace back to too many plugins or plugins left unpatched. We install only what the store needs, prefer well-maintained options, and hand over a list of every plugin and what it does. After launch, updates should be tested against checkout before they go live; we offer maintenance for that, priced per site on request.

Moving from Shopify to WooCommerce

Some owners come to WooCommerce after a few years on Shopify, usually to cut monthly app costs or to bring the store and a content site together. A move is very doable, but it has to be planned so search rankings, customer records and order history survive it.

If you are unsure whether to leave at all, our comparison of Shopify or WooCommerce and which is better for a Thai store sets out the trade-offs. Stores that should stay put are better served by our Shopify development work. The checklist below is what we cover in a migration.

  • ProductsTitles, descriptions, variants, prices, stock, images and categories exported from Shopify and checked after import.
  • CustomersCustomer records moved; passwords cannot be transferred, so customers set a new one at first login and we prepare that email with you.
  • OrdersPast orders brought across where you need them for support and reporting.
  • RedirectsEvery old product and collection URL mapped to its new address with a 301 redirect.
  • Payments and shippingGateways, COD rules, zones and courier connections rebuilt and checked with test orders.
  • Cut-overA short freeze on product changes, a final sync, then the domain switch and a close watch on the first orders.

WooCommerce or Shopify side by side

WooCommerce is the better fit when you want ownership and flexibility and have someone, in-house or on a maintenance arrangement, to keep it healthy. Choose Shopify instead if nobody on your team wants to think about hosting, updates or backups, if you want to launch with the least technical decision-making, or if you prefer one predictable monthly bill to a mix of hosting and plugin renewals.

How much does a WooCommerce store cost?

WooCommerce stores are built under our E-commerce package, from THB 50,000 as an indicative one-time price, with product import, Thai payments and couriers, e-Tax invoice setup, staff training and a launch checklist. Hosting, paid plugins and gateway fees are separate running costs paid to those providers. What drives a WooCommerce website price up or down, such as catalogue size or a migration, is explained on our pricing page, and your written quote sets the final figure and the payment terms.

Not every WooCommerce build is a classic product shop. A cafe selling gift cards and set menus online has different needs from a fashion label, and our notes on website design for restaurants show how ordering fits a food business. Common questions

Is WooCommerce free to use?

The WooCommerce plugin itself is free and open source, and it takes no percentage of your sales. Running a store still has costs: hosting in your name, your payment gateway's fees, and any paid extensions such as table-rate shipping or a premium theme. Our build is a separate one-time cost set in your quote. Your quote names the running costs to expect before you approve it.

Can WooCommerce take PromptPay and cash on delivery?

Yes. Cash on delivery comes with WooCommerce as a standard payment method, and we add limits such as an order value cap with a plugin or custom code. PromptPay is added through a gateway plugin that creates a QR code per order and confirms payment automatically, or, for low order volumes, a simpler slip-upload method. We put test orders through both before launch.

Can you move my store from Shopify to WooCommerce?

Yes. We move products, variants, images, customers and, where you need them, past orders, then set up 301 redirects from every old Shopify URL so search engines and bookmarks find the new pages. Customer passwords cannot be carried over, so we plan a clear reset email. Payments and shipping are rebuilt and tested before the domain is switched.

Where will my WooCommerce store be hosted?

On a hosting account in your own name. We do not sell hosting, but we help you choose a plan suited to a store: enough server resources for checkout traffic, caching that skips cart and checkout pages, off-server backups and a data centre close to Thai visitors. Keeping the account in your name means you stay in control of the store if you ever change developer.

Will WooCommerce slow down my WordPress site?

It can if it is set up carelessly: too many plugins, uncompressed product images, or hosting that cannot handle uncached checkout pages. Done properly, a store and a content site sit happily together on WordPress. We keep the plugin list short, load store scripts only where they are needed, and test page speed on phones with your full catalogue before launch.
