Shopify developer for Thai stores

Shopify stores set up for selling in Thailand, from THB 50,000: theme, products, Thai payment providers, couriers, Thai and English, and staff training.

What a Shopify developer sets up for you

As a Shopify developer for Thai stores, we set up your store end to end, from Thai payments to shipping, then hand it over with training so the daily work stays with you. Shopify builds sit in our E-commerce package, from THB 50,000.

Opening a Shopify account takes minutes. Getting a store that Thai customers trust, that takes their preferred payment, ships correctly and that your staff can run without calling anyone is the part a Shopify developer does.

This page is only about Shopify execution. If you are still weighing platforms, start with our overview of building an online shop in Thailand. One thing to be clear on first: we are an independent developer, not a Shopify Partner, and we make no claim to Shopify certification.

What you keep doing after launch

You open the Shopify account yourself and pay the plan directly to Shopify. Your team adds products, answers customers, packs orders and runs promotions. We set things up so those jobs are simple, and we can stay on for maintenance, priced on request.

  • Store settingsCurrency, taxes, checkout fields for Thai addresses, notification emails and store policies.
  • Theme customisationA theme adapted to your brand and products, tested on phones first, without piling on apps that slow pages down.
  • Product importProducts, variants, images and stock imported from a spreadsheet, a marketplace export or another platform.
  • PaymentsA payment provider that serves Thai customers, plus cash on delivery if you want it.
  • ShippingRates by weight, zone or order value, and the courier connection that suits your volume.
  • AppsOnly the apps the store needs, each one checked for cost and speed.
  • Training and launchA walkthrough for your staff and a launch checklist with test orders on every payment method.

This is where Thai Shopify stores differ most from the tutorials. At the time of writing, Shopify's own payment service, Shopify Payments, is not offered to stores based in Thailand; Thailand does not appear on Shopify's list of supported countries. A Thai store therefore takes payment through a third-party provider connected in the Shopify admin.

How we choose the provider

  • PromptPay support: the provider should show a PromptPay QR at checkout and confirm the payment back to Shopify, so orders are marked paid without staff checking a bank app.
  • Cards: Visa and Mastercard at minimum, with the card data held by the provider rather than your store.
  • Your company setup: providers ask for business documents, and some suit registered companies better than individual sellers.
  • Total cost: the provider's own fees plus any extra transaction fee Shopify charges on your plan when a third-party provider is used. Both are listed on the respective pricing pages, and we ask you to check them before we connect anything.

Checkout details that matter in Thailand

Shopify's checkout is fixed in structure, which keeps it fast and trusted, but the fields and wording can be adjusted. We make sure the address form suits Thai addresses and phone numbers, that the checkout reads correctly in Thai, and that customers who need a tax invoice can give their company details. Cash on delivery is added as a manual payment method, with order limits set through the rules or apps your plan allows.

Shipping, couriers and COD

Shopify's built-in shipping settings handle rates well: weight bands, zones for Bangkok and the provinces, and free shipping above an order value. What they do not do out of the box is create labels with Thai couriers. For that, sellers use a courier's own app or a shipping aggregator app from the Shopify App Store that connects to carriers such as Thailand Post, KEX Express (formerly Kerry Express), Flash Express or J&T.

Picking the setup by order volume

  • A few orders a day: rates in Shopify, labels booked in the courier's own system, tracking numbers pasted back into the order. Cheap and simple.
  • Steady daily volume: an app that pulls paid orders, prints labels in bulk and writes tracking back to Shopify, which then emails the customer.
  • Heavy COD share: an app or courier account that reports COD collections, so your team can match cash remitted by the courier against orders.

We check which apps currently support your chosen couriers before recommending one, since app listings and courier connections change. Refused COD parcels are a real cost, so we also help you decide where COD is offered and how returned parcels are logged in Shopify.

Plans, apps and running costs

A Shopify store has two kinds of cost: our one-time build, and the monthly costs you pay to others for as long as the store runs. The monthly side is the part owners most often underestimate.

  • The Shopify plan: billed by Shopify, with higher plans adding staff accounts, reporting and lower fees. Current prices are on Shopify's pricing page, and our article on choosing between Shopify plans explains which plan tends to suit which size of store.
  • Payment fees: charged by your payment provider, plus any Shopify transaction fee that applies to third-party providers on your plan.
  • Apps: many useful apps charge monthly. Five small subscriptions add up, so we keep the list short and tell you the cost of each app we suggest.
  • Theme: free Shopify themes work well for many stores; a paid theme is a one-time purchase when it saves customisation time.

Selling without stock

If your plan is to sell products shipped by a supplier, the costs and risks change: supplier reliability, delivery times into Thailand and customer service all land on you. Read our notes on Shopify dropshipping from Thailand before you commit budget to a store built around it.

A Thai and English storefront

Shopify can run one store in several languages, with each language on its own URL, and Thai is among the languages Shopify provides ready translations for in checkout and default theme text, according to its localization and translation help page. Product titles, descriptions, collections and your own pages still need translating, which is usually done through Shopify's Translate & Adapt app.

We plan the language work with you: which language is the default, whether every product gets both versions or only the best sellers, and who writes the Thai and English copy. Machine translation is fine as a first draft for product specs, but product descriptions and policies read far better when a person writes each version for its audience. A Thai buyer and an expat buyer in Sukhumvit often care about different details on the same product.

Moving to Shopify from a marketplace or another platform

Many stores start on Shopee or Lazada, or on another builder. Product data can usually be exported as a spreadsheet and imported into Shopify after the columns are mapped. Customer accounts and order history move less cleanly, and marketplace customers are not yours to import. We check exports early, map old product URLs to new ones with redirects when you move from another website, and keep your marketplace shops running while the new store settles in.

Shopify or WooCommerce: which suits your store?

Shopify is not always the right answer, and we would rather say so before you pay for a build. If you need deep changes to how checkout works, unusual pricing for trade buyers, or you want your store to live inside an existing WordPress site, our WooCommerce development service is likely the better fit. The fuller argument, beyond stores, is in our WordPress vs Shopify e-commerce comparison.

How much does a Shopify store cost?

Shopify builds fall under our E-commerce package, from THB 50,000 as an indicative one-time price. It covers the Thai payment and courier setup, product import, e-Tax invoice setup, staff training and the launch checklist. Your written quote sets the final price, and payment terms are set out in it. For the factors that raise or lower a store budget, see how much an e-commerce website costs. A typical project takes about 15 days; big catalogues take longer and the quote says so.

If you are still getting to know the platform, the Shopify Thailand guide covers the basics from a seller's point of view. For everything else we build, from company sites to WordPress, start at our home page on website development in Bangkok.

Common questions

Are you a Shopify Partner?

No. We are an independent web development company in Bangkok and we do not claim Shopify Partner status or any Shopify certification. What we offer is hands-on setup of Shopify stores for the Thai market: payments, couriers, product import, two languages and training. You open the Shopify account yourself, and we work in it as a staff user.

Does Shopify accept PromptPay in Thailand?

Not through Shopify's own payment service, which at the time of writing is not available to stores based in Thailand. PromptPay is added through a third-party payment provider that supports it and connects to Shopify. We compare the providers available to you when we set up the store, then test PromptPay orders end to end, including how the paid status reaches Shopify.

How much does Shopify cost each month?

It depends on the plan you choose, the apps you install and your payment provider's fees. Shopify changes its plan prices and fees from time to time, so we point you to Shopify's own pricing page for current figures rather than quoting a number here. Our separate article on Shopify plans explains which plan usually fits a small, medium or growing Thai store.

Can my Shopify store show Thai and English?

Yes. Shopify supports several languages in one store, each with its own URL, and it provides Thai text for checkout and default theme wording. Your products, collections and pages still need their Thai and English versions written and added, usually with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app. We agree in the quote which content gets both languages and who supplies the copy.

Can you move my Shopee or Lazada products to Shopify?

Usually, yes. Both marketplaces let sellers export product data, and we map those columns to Shopify's import format, then bring in titles, descriptions, prices, variants and images. We check a sample first because marketplace exports vary. Customer lists and reviews stay on the marketplace, so the new store starts with your products, not your marketplace buyers or ratings.
