Is Shopify Payments available in Thailand?
Shopify Payments is not available in Thailand: at the time of writing, Thailand is not on Shopify's list of countries where it is offered. You take payments by connecting a third-party provider for cards and QR payments, and you can add manual methods such as cash on delivery or bank transfer.
So if you set up a Thai store and found no Shopify Payments option at checkout setup, nothing is broken. The catch is cost. Your provider charges its own fees, and because you are not using Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee of its own on orders paid through that provider. So a Thai store pays two layers of fees on card and QR orders.
This article is only about that payment layer. For the platform itself, see our explainer on what Shopify is and how it works, and for the full store setup, our guide to running a Shopify store in Thailand.
Which payment providers work with Shopify in Thailand
The list changes, so we will not print one here that could be out of date next month. Shopify keeps two places you should check on the day you decide:
- Shopify's payment gateways directory on shopify.com, filtered by country, shows the providers Shopify lists for Thailand.
- Your own admin, under Settings, then Payments. Shopify notes that the options shown there also depend on your store's current payment configuration, so the admin is the final word for your store.
The kinds of provider you will see
- Regional gateways that serve Thailand. These are usually the practical choice: Thai baht settlement to a Thai bank account, local card acceptance and, in many cases, PromptPay QR.
- International wallets. PayPal is the familiar example. Useful for overseas buyers, less so for Thai customers who expect PromptPay or a Thai card.
- Payment apps from the Shopify App Store. Some providers connect as apps rather than classic gateways. Read the install page for which countries and currencies each supports.
Before signing with any provider, ask it directly whether its Shopify integration supports Thai merchants and baht settlement. A gateway can serve Thailand on other platforms and still not offer its Shopify connector here.
PromptPay, cards, COD and bank transfer compared
Most Thai stores offer two or three of these side by side. PromptPay QR is the method many Thai shoppers reach for first on a phone, while cards matter more for higher-value orders and overseas buyers. Cash on delivery still wins orders from first-time customers who do not yet trust a new shop, but it is the most work for you.
Cards and 3-D Secure
Card payments through a gateway usually include 3-D Secure, where the customer confirms the payment in their bank's app or with a one-time code. It reduces fraud and chargebacks, but it is also where many card payments fail: an expired code, a banking app that will not open. Check how your gateway reports failed payments, and make sure an abandoned-checkout email reaches the customer so they can try again, or switch to PromptPay.
| Method | Customer experience | Fees | Your admin effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| PromptPay QR (via gateway) | Scan with a banking app, confirm, done | Gateway fee plus Shopify's third-party fee | Low: paid status updates automatically when supported |
| Credit and debit cards (via gateway) | Card form, often a 3-D Secure step | Gateway fee plus Shopify's third-party fee | Low, plus handling disputes and chargebacks |
| Cash on delivery (manual) | Pay the courier on arrival | No gateway fee; courier COD charges may apply | High: collect, reconcile courier remittances, mark orders paid |
| Bank transfer (manual) | Transfer, then send a slip | No gateway fee | High: match each slip to an order by hand |
How much do Shopify payments really cost in Thailand?
On each card or QR order paid through a third-party provider, two charges come off the sale:
- The provider's fee. Usually a percentage of the order, sometimes plus a fixed amount, and often different for cards, foreign cards and PromptPay. It is set by the provider, not Shopify.
- Shopify's third-party transaction fee. A percentage Shopify adds because you are not on Shopify Payments. It is lower on higher plans, which is one reason some stores move up a plan as volume grows; the top tier is weighed in our look at whether Shopify Plus is worth it.
When we checked Shopify's pricing page in September 2026, the third-party transaction fee was listed as 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus; our guide to Shopify plans and fees in Thailand sets out the plans. Both this fee and your provider's rate change, so confirm the current figures on Shopify's pricing page and your provider's own rate card.
A worked example with placeholders
Say an order is THB 1,000. If your provider charges P percent and Shopify's third-party fee on your plan is S percent, you pay roughly 1,000 × (P + S) ÷ 100 in fees, plus any fixed per-order charge. Run that on your average order value and monthly order count, then compare it with the price gap between plans. For stores with high card volume, the plan upgrade can pay for itself.
Manual methods such as cash on delivery and bank transfer do not carry a gateway fee, and Shopify's help pages say its transaction fee is not charged on them. Their cost is time: reconciling courier COD remittances and checking transfer slips.
Shopify and Stripe: what is and is not possible
This question comes up often, because Stripe accepts Thai businesses and many owners assume they can plug a Stripe account into Shopify. In practice, Stripe's main role on Shopify is as the processor behind Shopify Payments in the countries where Shopify Payments runs. Shopify does not generally offer Stripe as a separate gateway you connect with your own Stripe account.
For a Thai store, that means a Stripe account does not by itself give you a Shopify checkout option. Check Shopify's gateway directory for Thailand and your admin's payment settings: if Stripe is not listed there, you cannot connect it, whatever a forum post says. A Stripe account can still be useful for invoices or payment links outside the store, but that is a separate workflow from Shopify checkout.
If you already rely on Stripe elsewhere in the business, raise it early. It may be a reason to look at WooCommerce, where Stripe connects through its own plugin.
Payouts, refunds and your accounts
Payouts come from your provider, not Shopify, so settlement timing, the payout currency and the bank account are all set in the provider's contract. Ask for baht settlement to a Thai bank account if your costs are in baht, and find out how many days a payout takes, because that is money your stock budget waits for.
Refunds on gateway orders are usually issued from the Shopify order page and passed to the provider, but check whether your provider supports refunds from within Shopify or only from its own dashboard, and whether its fee is returned on a refund. For manual methods, refunds happen outside Shopify entirely.
Reconciliation is where stores lose hours. Each payout covers many orders, minus fees, so your accountant needs the provider's payout report alongside Shopify's order export. If you issue e-Tax invoices or use Thai accounting software, plan the link early; our guide to connecting your website to Thai accounting software covers the options.
Choosing a gateway: a checklist
Put these questions to every provider on your shortlist, and get the answers in writing.

- PromptPay QRSupported on Shopify checkout, with paid status updating automatically.
- Card coverageThai and foreign cards, with 3-D Secure.
- Fees in writingPercentage and fixed fees per method, plus refund and chargeback charges.
- SettlementBaht payouts to a Thai bank account, and how many days they take.
- RefundsCan be issued from the Shopify order page.
- ReportsPayout reports your accountant can match to orders.
- SupportThai-language support and a named contact for your account.
- OnboardingDocuments needed and how long approval takes before you can go live.
If Shopify's payment limits are a deal-breaker
For some stores the extra transaction fee is a small price for a hosted platform. For others, especially those with thin margins and high card volume, it tips the decision. The main alternative is WooCommerce on WordPress, where there is no platform transaction fee and Thai gateways connect through their own plugins. Our overview of WordPress for Thai businesses explains the trade-offs, and WordPress site pricing in Bangkok shows what a build involves. If you sell without holding stock, our article on Shopify dropshipping from Thailand covers how payments interact with supplier costs.
If you stay with Shopify, we can set up the payment side as part of our Shopify development work. Our E-commerce package, from THB 50,000 as an indicative one-time price, covers PromptPay, cards, cash on delivery and Thai couriers, along with product import, e-Tax invoice setup and staff training. A typical project runs about 15 days from the agreed brief to launch; large catalogues take longer, and your written quote sets out the final price and payment terms.
